Government Meetings
Floyd County Board of Supervisors — Regular Floyd County Board of Supervisors meetings are held at 8:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and at 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 202 E. Town Council — Floyd Town Council meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Proffit House Community Room at Floyd Town Hall (203 E. Oxford St.). Visit www.townoffloyd.org to learn more and view the agenda for each meeting.
Floyd County School Board — Regular Floyd County Public School Board meetings take place at 6 p.m. On the second Monday of each month at 140 Harris Hart Rd. in Floyd. Additional information about each meeting is available at www.floyd.k12.va.us/school-board.
Culture and Recreation
Floyd Farmers Market — Floyd’s Farmers Market is open from 2-6 p.m. May through October, and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. May through December. Winter market hours are from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. December through April. All markets are held under the Community Pavilion in the center of downtown Floyd, just off of south Locust St. Discover more about market offerings and more at www.floydfarmersmarket.org.
Floyd Artisan Market — The weekly Floyd Artisan Market features a lineup of local and regional artisans offering everything from pottery and jewelry to textiles, woodwork, and more. It’s the perfect way to support local creatives and discover one-of-a-kind finds from 5-9 p.m. under the Community Pavilion on south Locust Street through the end of October.
Jessie Peterman Memorial Library — Regular open hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays, and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays at 321 W. The Floyd Country Store — From its legendary Friday Night Jamboree to its Tuesday Tunes with Jesse Smathers and Friends, Americana Afternoons, Honky Tonk Thursdays, ticketed concerts, workshops and more, the Floyd Country Store the Floyd Country Store, located at 206 S. Nonprofits and Volunteer Opportunities
The Floyd Historical Society — The Floyd Historical Society’s 2025 exhibit focuses on the “Music of the Mountains.” It includes everything from early church music to the present music scene, information about individual instruments, musicians (such as Blind Alfred Reed, Randall Hylton, Arthur Conner, etc) and more. The Museum, located at 217 N. Locust St., is open from noon until 4 p.m. each Friday and Saturday through Dec. 6. Admission is free. Learn more at www.floydhistoricalsociety.org.
Old Church Gallery — Established in 1978, the Old Church Gallery is featuring “Memories Sit Here” for 2025. The exhibit showcases more than 30 handmade chairs, stools and benches, along with their makers’ stories. Gallery hours are from 205 p.m. on Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at 110 Wilson St. in Floyd. Learn more and view the gallery’s online collection at www.oldchurchgallery.org.
Handmade Music School — The Handmade Music School specializes in the art of traditional Appalachian instruments, such as the banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin, to cultivate and strengthen community through music, dance, art and food. The nonprofit offers a variety of workshops, classes, camps, events and private lessons to foster a love and appreciation for all things Appalachia. Floyd Center for the Arts — Community members are provided with a variety of ways to express themselves and connect with others at the Floyd Center for the Arts, including regular art classes and workshops, special concerts, inspired exhibits and artist receptions, and more. Floyd County Humane Society — An all-volunteer organization officially founded in 2000, the Floyd County Humane Society is dedicated to serving four-legged friends by providing low-cost spays/neuters, participating in TNR programs, adopting out cats, kittens, dogs and puppies, and bringing community awareness to challenges that threaten the pet population. Partnership for Floyd — Partnership for Floyd envisions a vibrant, thriving and connected community. Its projects include Floyd Flower Power, the Dodd Creek Fitness Trail, Warren G. Lineberry Community Park and the Park to Library Trail, among others. PFF meets in the Hotel Floyd conference room (300 Rick Lewis Way) at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.
