Community in Schools readies for launch of 'Connection Counts'

Throughout the month of November, Communities in Schools (CIS) will host after-school programs each Monday evening at the high school from 4-6 p.m. The series, called “Connection Counts,” is open to all Floyd County High School students and their families.

Sydney Capito, regional director of programming and community schools, said the idea behind Connection Counts is to bring students, families, school staff, and community members together to have fun, give back, and celebrate each part of the whole.

“We hope these stronger connections will help improve attendance, increase family engagement, and strengthen the connection that students feel to their school and community,” Capito said.

Local organizations will also be participating in the series, including: Safe Surfin’, The June Bug Center, Blue Ridge Motion, Floyd County Parks and Recreation, Buffalo Mountain Martial Arts, Department of Conservation and Recreation, Floyd County EMS, and Healthy Floyd.

With questions about Connection Counts, email Lenora Laveau at llaveau@cisofah.org or call (276) 207-8155.
