Community invited to ribbon cutting at library on Friday
Library officials said in a release about the ribbon cutting, “community support was strong from the start, and the project received many generous donations from individuals, businesses, and local organizations.”

The Floyd County Library Building Fund began raising money for the Pavilion in December 2023, and two years later the Pavilion at Jessie Peterman Memorial Library is complete.
Everyone is invited to join in a ribbon cutting event to officially open the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library’s Pavilion at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17. Light refreshments will be provided.

Library officials said in a release about the ribbon cutting, “community support was strong from the start, and the project received many generous donations from individuals, businesses, and local organizations.”
The Floyd Friends of the Library showed their support for the project by selling t-shirts and tote bags with a lovely Pavilion design.
By early spring 2025 enough funds had been raised to move forward with the project. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on April 4, and construction began in early June. Omnibuild General Contractors maintained a steady pace throughout the summer.
Mid-June saw the concrete support piers in place. Construction of the timber frame roof began at the end of July and was completed in late August. By the end of September construction was completed.
The 850-square-foot structure, created by DesignWorks Construction, is located on the west end of the library’s property, on a wooded slope overlooking a small creek and wetland area.

The Pavilion will serve as a versatile venue for library programming. Concerts, art programs, nature talks, meditation, book talks are all envisioned and library staff are very excited about the possibilities for this outdoor space.
Situated at the library end of the Lineberry Park to Library Trail, it also offers the community and visitors a place to sit, rest, and enjoy nature.
