Residents are encouraged to report suspicious calls to FCSO as soon as possible by calling (540) 745-9334.
The Floyd County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) has been made aware of an active scam targeting residents in the area. The department issued a statement asking community members to "remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls" on Monday, Feb. 23.
"An individual is fraudulently posing as Sheriff Brian Craig and contacting citizens using a cloned phone number, (540) 745-9334, which appears as our non-emergency line," FCSO said. "Victims are then directed to call separate phone numbers to submit payment. Please be advised that the Sheriff's Office will NEVER contact individuals to solicit money or request payment of any kind."
As of Monday, the statement noted, no financial losses have been reported, and the situation remains under investigation. Furthermore, FCSO's non-emergency line is still fully operational for public use.
