Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration set for this weekend
This annual event is designed to celebrate the diversity of our local community while honoring the full history of how we all arrived here.
Floyd CARE, in partnership with Floyd Friends of Asylum Seekers (FFOAS), invites the community to the sixth annual National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration from 4-7 p.m. at Warren G. Lineberry Park this Saturday, Sept. 26.
This annual event is designed to celebrate the diversity of our local community while honoring the full history of how we all arrived here. Attendees can look forward to a dynamic afternoon filled with live music, traditional dance, educational speakers, delicious food, and meaningful community engagement.

The event will be emceed by Diedre and Juan Pablo Cubur, with headline musical performances throughout the afternoon by SOLAZO. The schedule will feature:
- 4:15-7 p.m. — Musical performances by SOLAZO.
- 5-5:15 p.m. — An introduction to FFOAS by founder Tara Orlando followed by a traditional dance performance from Chiapas, Mexico, by Carmen, Alfredo, Analiah, and Miquel.
- 6-6:15 p.m. — Insights from The Latinas Network and an important presentation by Mikhayla on immigrant and immigrant-helper rights in today’s climate.
Attendees can enjoy authentic food, including a variety of tamales, elote en vaso ("corn in a cup" or street corn, a snack from Northern Mexico), and delicious desserts from Halesco and Central Mexico. Numerous information tables will be available to explore, representing organizations such as The Latinas Network, FFOAS, WRC, the Child Study Center, Local Colors, and more.

This event also serves as a crucial fundraiser for FFOAS. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the silent auction, a special vacation rental auction, the purchase of custom bluebird houses, and the 50/50 raffle, with the winner to be announced at the event’s closing at 7 p.m.
