The high school Buffaloes still have two meets before the 2A Region Championships, which is set for Oct. 28. Moran said that the team is ready to deliver strong performances to close out the 2026 season.

Emergency drought assistance program opens for Floyd County livestock producers
The program allows emergency livestock water to be installed on farms that are experiencing dry/underperforming wells, dried springs, dried ponds, and more as a result of the drought.
Floyd visitors spent about $20 million in 2025
Floyd's busiest tourism months are from May through October. Legg said this is likely due to family trips at the beginning of summer break, FloydFest, end-of-summer trips, and fall foliage.

Sheriff Brian Craig announces retirement at end of current term; Conversations begin about successor
Craig, 52, will have 30 years in law enforcement by the time of his planned retirement, all of it spent with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. He began work at the agency in 1997 and is in his third term as sheriff.
