Floyd becomes an official Bee City
Just in time for the start of an international, bee-centric conference at the Floyd EcoVillage, Bee City USA announced this week that Floyd County is now a certified affiliate of the pollinator-positive initiative.

Haden Polseno-Hensley, co-owner of the coffee company, called Yellow Hen Child Care “one of the most amazing, beautiful things about Red Rooster Coffee.” It ceased operation on Aug. 7.

Throughout the past 50 years, there have been six expansions of the Floyd site, and there are “probably 10 times more employees now than when we started,” Hatcher said. The current longest tenured employee at the Floyd site recently retired with almost 45 years as an operator.

Governor declares State of Emergency to aid farmers facing hay shortage
In Floyd County specifically, hay yields were down 45% for the first cutting, according to Senior Floyd Extension Agent Jon Vest. He said, "Folks that made early hay (May cuttings) fared a bit better, and as the hay harvest extended into June, losses of up to 50% were reported."
