Donations turn into holiday magic through The Perfect Gift Shop
This year’s Mega Yard Sale to support TPGS is being held until April 25 in the old Finders Keepers building at 219 E. Main St. Items include glassware, electronics, clothes, Christmas decor, tools, shoes, sewing accessories, bedding, furniture, and more.
The Perfect Gift Shop (TPGS) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that provides a shopping experience for children and developmentally delayed adults to participate in the joy of giving during the holiday season. The seasonal shop is open throughout the month of December each year.
The joy of the holidays is not only receiving gifts but also being able to give gifts. Experiencing the joy of giving is empowering for those they serve. Although there are many great organizations who work to see that children receive gifts during the holidays, TPGS shares the joy of giving gifts with their shoppers.
Each December, local schools, churches, food banks, and businesses help to distribute $25 gift certificates for qualified shoppers to use at TPGS. While effort is made to reach children and developmentally disabled adults who would otherwise not be able to give gifts to loved ones without TPGS, there is no income requirement or verification process. All children ages 5 through 15 and developmentally disabled adults who reside in or attend school or churches in Floyd County are encouraged to get a gift certificate and shop.
While most shoppers at TPGS are shopping for Christmas gifts, TPGS welcomes all shoppers, including shoppers for other December holidays and celebrations.
TPGS volunteers accept donated items as well as donations of money throughout the year. They also hold a Mega Yard Sale* to raise funds for operations. TPGS is possible because of the support of the Floyd community, Floyd County Board of Supervisors, other local organizations, and the many volunteers that donate their time, money, and gifts.
The child that receives the gift certificate must come in person to shop. While parents and older children may accompany the child, they must wait outside while the child shops. The child has the exciting experience of thinking about family members, what they would like, and how they would feel to receive the gifts. Thinking of how the gift receiver would enjoy the gift is part of the empowering experience. The Shop has “elves” who help each child shop for the people on their list and will wrap those gifts for the child, as well.
Strong bodies build strong lives. At Floyd Fitness, we create a space where movement transforms confidence, health, and energy. Whether you’re starting fresh or chasing new goals, our team and community are here to support you every step. Join today and see what strength feels like!
The children are excited to be able to give to others. Gifts are priced from $1 to $10 so that each child should be able to redeem the certificate for at least five gifts.
In 2025, 621 shoppers were served — 612 were children between the ages of 5 and 15, and nine were developmentally delayed adults. Over 4,265 gifts were bought with gift certificates we provided that were distributed by Floyd County Schools, churches, food pantries, and home school organizations.

Other Ways to Support TPGS
Donate — If you have new or gently used items that would make nice gifts and would like to donate them, bring them to The Perfect Gift Shop storage space during announced hours of operations in the back basement at 613 East Main (flower building next to the Xpress Mart) or arrange for pickup. TPGS shoppers buy gifts for parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and friends so any appropriate gift item will be appreciated. Cash donations are welcome and are used to purchase gifts and pay operating expenses.
Sponsor a child by making a cash donation. All donations will be used to purchase gifts to stock their shelves. Gifts that do not “sell” will be donated to other non-profits in Floyd or stored for next year.
Volunteer — TPGS is an all-volunteer not for profit 501c3 organization with six years of successful operation. Volunteers help shoppers, stock shelves, make gift items, greet shoppers, wrap gifts, or communicate with the community. There are many tasks that must be done to serve shoppers each year. If you would like to help, contact us to volunteer. There are many teams to be a part of, including Movers and Decorators, Gift Making, Shop Setup, Elves, Gift Wrappers, and more.
The shop will be located at 209 Fox St. NW (the old rec center building behind the former Floyd County Administration building on Oxford Street). Open hours vary by day and will be listed on the gift certificate letter.
