Powers, Mizusawa take Primary wins

The decisions of Floyd County voters mirrored those of the rest of the 9th District and the state. Powers took 51.7% of the vote to represent the 9th with 9,378. Mizusawa took 51.4% of the statewide vote with 122,441.

Powers, Mizusawa take Primary wins

Including votes cast during the early voting period, about 11% of Floyd County voters participated in Tuesday's Dual Primaries that decided party candidates for November's General Election.

According to the Department of Elections, 678 voters in Floyd County cast votes in the Republican race and 720 voted on the Democratic ballot. A total of 1,398 votes were cast with about 12,300 registered voters in Floyd County. Across both parties, about 480 voted on Election Day.

In the Democratic primary to face off against Morgan Griffith to represent the 9th District of Virginia in the House of Representatives, Joy Powers won the Floyd County vote with 504. Adam Murphy received 177, and Douglas Crockett received 39.

In the Republican primary to face off against Mark Warner in the U.S. Senate, Bert Mizusawa received 324 votes throughout Floyd County. David Williams received 283, and Kim Farington received 71.
