On May 1, Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department Stations No. 2 and No. 4 were dispatched to a structure fire near the Patrick County line, off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Due to the proximity and the amount of smoke in-route unites were seeing in the area, units from Meadows of Dan were also dispatched. Those first to arrive found a two-story, residential building fully engulfed with some spread into the nearby woods, Station No. 2 officials said in a statement.

Floyd County's Chief of EMS and Emergency Management Coordinator Dustin Thomas said a total of 13 Floyd County firefighters responded to the blaze. There were no reported injuries of residents, pets, or firefighters from Floyd or Meadows of Dan.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Monday, May 4.
