Fourth of July events set for Friday and Saturday

Celebrate the Fourth of July with live music, local vendors, activities for all ages, and more this Friday (July 3) at 6 p.m. at Floyd County High School (721 Baker St.).

The celebration will start with a reading from the Declaration of Independence, a singing of the National Anthem by Tara Hollandsworth, and a presentation of flags by Floyd's Chapter of the American Legion.

Music from The Blankenships will start at 6:30 p.m. and be followed by a set from The Deer Run Drifters at 7:30 p.m. Plus, there will be face painting, bounce houses, local vendors, a photo booth, and games. The fireworks will be featured in a live broadcast from Citizens.

Additionally, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, join the Floyd County Historical Society and special guests for a ceremony honoring the birth of our nation at Pine Creek Cemetery (389 Spangler Mill Rd.).

Pine Creek Cemetery holds the remains of nine Revolutionary War veterans. We will be honoring their service by placing a wreath at the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Memorial. 

This event is presented by the Floyd County Historical Society, Floyd Courthouse Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Floyd County Historical Preservation Trust.
