Local seniors ready for May graduation
Floyd County Public Schools (FCPS) Superintendent Jessica Cromer explained that the move to a Friday ceremony was decided upon due to feedback from students and families. “Many colleges have graduations on Saturday and this way families have the opportunity to attend more celebrations,” she said.
Floyd County High School’s Class of 2026 will receive their diplomas and toss their caps on Friday, May 15, starting at 6 p.m.
Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outdoors on the Beale Field. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the new gym on the Alan Cantrell Court.

Graduating seniors will have their Senior Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, and their last day of school is set for May 8. That day will include the Senior Picnic and Elementary School Walk-throughs at Check, Willis, and Indian Valley elementary schools.
Cromer noted that the baseball games previously scheduled for the evening of May 15 have been rescheduled for May 20.
The last day of school for continuing FCPS students is Thursday, May 21, and it is an early release day.
