Despite the initial forecast for Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 24-25) of about two feet of snow, Floyd County and its surrounding areas saw more of an accumulation of sleet than soft powder.
Businesses, government offices, and nonprofits like Plenty! Farm and Food Bank and New River Community Services, were closed at the beginning of the week for hazardous conditions on primary and secondary roads. By Tuesday afternoon, many secondary roads were still slick, but Floyd County Courts and other essential services — and some businesses — were able to open. No widespread power outages were reported.

This week's Floyd County Board of Supervisors meeting was rescheduled to begin at noon on Thursday, Jan. 29, following the Board's Inclement Weather Policy with a change to the start time.
