Local students and DJ’s Drive-In recently made significant donations to Plenty! Farm and Food Bank to help them prepare for the busy holiday season.

Plenty! Vice President Amanda Gallimore Morgan said that local students at Floyd Elementary School surpassed their goal of collecting 500 boxes within the first week of the Cereal Drive, which ran from Nov. 3-19. She said blew its initial "goal out of the water."

A total of 884 was collected by the end of the drive, which was celebrated by setting up a massive “domino effect” throughout the school on Nov. 19.

Morgan said more than 400 students, faculty, and staff lined the walls of the school’s hallways to watch the line fall. “There was thrill, excitement, amazement, and more,” she said.

Plenty! Executive Director Shannon Hardwicke noted that Floyd students also donated about 943 pounds of food, collected through a school club drive, and Blue Mountain School donated more than 240 pounds.

A total of 115 containers of peanut butter and more than 60 containers of jelly were delivered to the food bank after the drive.

"Thank you to all the local schools, restaurants, churches, and individuals who have contributed this holiday," said Shannon Hardwicke, executive director of Plenty! "Your kindness and generosity are making a real difference in our community."

Plenty! is also fundraising for its annual Giving Tuesday campaign and has raised more than $89,000 of its $100,000 goal. Additional details can be found at www.givelocalnrv.org/organization/Plenty.
