Floyd leaders reorganize for new year

Board of Supervisors
Joe Turman of Burks Fork and Jerry Boothe of the Courthouse District will continue being the Chair and Vice-Chair of the county’s Board of Supervisors throughout 2026 respectively. Little River Supervisor Linda DeVito Kuchenbuch voted against both appointments at the Jan. 5 meeting.
Regular meetings were set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and at 6 or 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday. The 6 p.m. meeting time will be from October through March, and 7 p.m. meetings will be held April through September. All meetings will take place at the Floyd County Government Building, located at 202 E. Main St.
The 2026 reorganizational meeting was the first for Indian Valley Supervisor Walter Phillips, who unseated Kalinda Bechtold. The following additional appointments were confirmed via roll call vote during the meeting:
- Extension Leadership Council (one-year term): Supervisor Cox
- Floyd-Floyd County Public Service Authority (three-year term): Supervisor Boothe
- Floyd County Chamber of Commerce Board Liaison (one-year term): Supervisor Turman
- Floyd County Planning Commission (one-year term): Supervisor Phillips
- Floyd County Tourism Development Council (two-year term): Supervisor DeVito Kuchenbuch and Supervisor Phillips (one-year term)
- New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Development Area Consortium Board of Directors (one-year term): Supervisor Turman and Tabitha Hodge as alternate
- New River Regional Jail Authority Board (one-year term): Supervisor Turman and Supervisor Cox as alternate
- Virginia Association of Counties Legislative Contact (one-year term): Supervisor Turman and Supervisor DeVito Kuchenbuch as alternate

Town Council
Floyd Town Council set its 2026 meeting times to be at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month with the exceptions of June and July. Town Council will meet on the first and third Wednesday of both June and July to allow Council members to attend Small Town Summer events. All meetings will take place at Floyd Town Hall, located at 203 E. Oxford St.
Councilman Chris Bond was elected Vice-Mayor, a position he’s held since the beginning of 2025.

School Board
At the Floyd County Public School Board’s first meeting of the year on Monday (Jan. 12), Little River representative James Ingram was re-appointed to be Chair, and Burks Fork’s Laura LeRoy was re-appointed to be the 2026 Vice-Chair.
Janet C. Harris was appointed to be School Board Clerk, Ashlee Weeks was appointed to be Deputy School Board Clerk, and Tammy Hubbard was unanimously elected to be the Superintendent Designee.
FCPS School Board meetings will continue to be held at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Administration Building, located at 140 Harris Hart Rd.
