Thousands of community members descended upon Oxford Street on Friday evening to show off their costumes for candy and other goodies.

A collaborative effort among the Town of Floyd, Floyd County, local businesses and nonprofits, and homeowners, this year’s Spooky Street was the fifth iteration of the event, which started as a drive-thru opportunity for kids to enjoy during the pandemic.

In addition to candy, trick-or-treaters received packets of sunflower seeds, light-up bracelets, age-appropriate books, crafts, and more.

The Floyd County Parks and Recreation Department hosted a costume contest, had refreshments, and set up activities for the community to participate in, including cornhole and chances to guess-the-weight of a pumpkin, in Gardner’s parking lot.

Popular costumes included inflatables (aliens, dachshunds, and dinosaurs), superheroes (Superman and Spider-Man), characters (from IT, Scream, Bluey, Scooby Doo, and Star Wars), mythical creatures (fairies, unicorns, and wizards), and animals.
