The Executive Committee of the Republican and Democratic parties of Floyd County have come together to issue a joint statement in light of recent events.

The following statement was released Tuesday, Sept. 23:

As patriotic citizens, who love our country, we condemn political violence. It is never acceptable to respond to free speech with violent acts. We are proud to live in Floyd County, where people respond to the unthinkable with respect and restraint.

We agree that the Constitution of the United States is the law of the land and that its First Amendment protects the right to free speech and assembly, and other inalienable rights.

Dialogue and the voting booth are the proper means to advance political arguments.
