Floyd County Volunteer firefighters from Stations 3 and 1 spent about three hours at the scene of a structure fire on Kings Store Road in Check on Friday night into early Saturday.
According to a statement made by Station 3 officials on Saturday, when units arrived, they found a wood-frame, single-story home with “heavy fire involvement throughout 50% of the structure.”
“Due to the building construction and heavy fire conditions, the structure experienced a partial collapse which made for extensive overhaul operations to fully extinguish the fire,” the statement said.

The fire was extinguished at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, and no injuries were reported by either civilians or firefighters.
Station 3 Fire Chief Riley Carr said the building was occupied at the time of the fire and that one individual has been displaced.
The cause is currently undetermined, Carr said, and he believes the structure is a total loss, though that hasn’t been confirmed by insurance officials.
Units at the scene included Chiefs 3 and 1, Wagon 3, Tanker 32, Tanker 3, Tanker 11, Tanker 1, and Attack 1.
First responders extended a special thanks to community members that allowed ponds on their property to be used as a water supply.
