Two Partnership for Floyd (PFF) members Jane Cundiff and Beverly Hill were recognized by the Red Cross at the 22nd annual Celebration of Heroes Breakfast earlier this month.

The breakfast event was presented by WSLS 10 at Hotel Roanoke on April 23.

According to the Red Cross, “This special morning honors individuals whose actions have made a meaningful difference in our communities. It is also an opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate the strong partnerships that make disaster preparedness, response, and recovery possible throughout our region. Our work would not be possible without the dedication and collaboration of emergency managers, fire and rescue professionals, public safety leaders, and community partners like you.”

Cundiff and Hill, alongside other PFF members, designed and hosted the First Floyd Emergency Preparedness Fair in 2025 and are working on the second fair to be held Sept. 19 during Virginia Emergency Preparedness Month. Floyd first responders and about 15 other organizations throughout the NRV will be there to answer our questions and give talks, advice and demonstrations.

Cundiff, with help from community volunteers, has also organized a “Rural Skills’ program of workshops to help folks learn skills that are good to know for emergencies and living closer to nature, but farther from city services.  Chainsaw use, first aid, gardening, herbal medicine, food preservation and more.  Our Partnership for Floyd “Get to Know Your Neighbors Campaign” is especially important for thriving during these changing times.
