Town sets public information session to discuss updates on DonnKenny project
The Public Engagement Session on Oct. 28 will revolve around the conceptual designs for the former DonnKenny site on Oxford Street. Citizens are invited to attend and ask questions.
During the brief Floyd Town Council meeting on Oct. 15, Town Manager Andrew Morris shared some details of this year’s Spooky Street, happening along Oxford Street from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Morris said there are between 15 and 20 ‘Spooky Stations’ signed up to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.
“This year we also partnered with Skyline, and [its station] will be called the ‘Skyline Spooky Zone’,” Morris said during the meeting. “[There will be] inflatables, a mechanical bull; that will be set up in the parking lot over there, and it’s a new addition, and that will be fun.”
Morris noted that Sheriff Brian Craig was working to send out something to the home owners along Oxford Street about the upcoming event. Craig is also working with the Virginia Department of Transportation, as he does every year about the closure of the street for the festivities.

The Chamber of Commerce announced during the public comment period of the Oct. 15 meeting that it received a $5,000 tourism grant for the upcoming holiday season. “We are very excited about that and looking forward to working with tourism to make small town holidays here in Floyd,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kathy Fett said.
The Council also went into closed session after the regular meeting on Thursday to discuss the DonnKenny Redevelopment project.
There will be a Public Engagement Session regarding the project at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Community Room of Town Hall (203 E. Oxford St.). The session will revolve around the conceptual designs for the former DonnKenny site on Oxford Street. Citizens are invited to attend to hear about progress and ask questions.
