Transfer Station fees increase Monday
In August, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors voted to change fees related to the county’s Transfer Station, and the increased fees go into effect on Monday, Dec. 1. Fees were last amended in September 2017.
In August, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors voted to change fees related to the county’s Transfer Station, and the increased fees go into effect on Monday, Dec. 1. Fees were last amended in September 2017.
The updated fees are as follows:
- Municipal/Commercial/Industrial Solid Waste Tipping Fees: $70 per ton
- Small Tires (passenger vehicle), 1 to 4 tires: $2 each
- Large Tires (commercial or agricultural vehicles), 1 to 4 tires: $15
- Tires, 5 or more: $0.12 per pound
- White Goods: $20 (refrigerant charge)
- Animal Carcasses (cows, horses, etc.) $65 per ton
- Liquids (antifreeze, oil mixtures, etc.) $2 per gallon
- Green Box Fee for Businesses: $70 per pickup
- Surcharge for Blocking Business Green Box: $35

Before new fess go into effect on Monday, charges for Municipal/Commercial/Industrial Tipping is $55 per ton; Small Tires are $1 each; Large Tires are $10 each; and Private Green Box Pick-up is $50 (two pick-ups per month required).
The Transfer Station is located at 139 Transfer Station Rd. Regular open hours are from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 8-11 a.m. on Saturdays.
According to the most recent list released by the county in September, green box sites (which are for the household waste of Floyd County residents only) are currently available for use at:
- 122 Macks Mountain Rd., next to the Indian Valley Rescue Station
- 800 Indian Valley Rd., at the intersection with White Rock Road
- 3800 Alum Ridge Road, across from Pleasant Valley Church
- 4074 Webbs Mill Road, across from Simmons
- 202 Lumber Lane, at Wills Ridge Supply
- Near 5075 Floyd Highway S. at Willis Elementary School
- 3752 Floyd Highway S.
- Union School Road, near the intersection with Floyd Highway S.
