Troika to hold reception this week

"I strive to make pottery that carries with it a sense of energy and life that can only be enhanced when used for the presentation of food and flowers," Polseno says in her artist statement online.

Staff Report

New works by Donna Polseno are on display at Troika Crafts this month.

Donna Polseno has lived in and been making art in Floyd since the '70s. She is a part of the backbone of the Floyd ceramics community as well as a contributor in the international field of ceramics.

Troika Crafts, located inside of The Station in downtown Floyd, has the fortunate opportunity of displaying Donna’s newest sculptures for the month of September.

"I strive to make pottery that carries with it a sense of energy and life that can only be enhanced when used for the presentation of food and flowers," Polseno says in her artist statement online. "Most pieces are slip cast and then often altered, added on to, or reconstructed in some way. I use a mid-range white casting slip."

A reception will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18, where Donna will be in attendance and able to answer questions about her life as a ceramic artist, what her newest line of sculptures means to her and how she sees her work continuing to evolve.

All are invited to attend the reception this week at Troika (203 S. Locust St., Suite A), from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 18, for an evening of art and community.
